My name is Christopher Woods and I am 14 years old. I am a very proud older brother to a beautiful little sister, as well as a singer and guitarist in a band, an honors student, and a quarterback at John Marshall High School in Los Angeles, CA.
My family means everything to me; without them I wouldn't be anything. Their love and toughness taught me how to compete and stay humble, and I will forever be grateful for that. If you were to ask me who my hero is I would say my Mother. She was an elite high school student athlete. Her abilities on the basketball court were amazing, as well as her academic and creative prowess. She taught me strength, grit, loyalty, and compassion. My other hero is my dad. He taught me mental toughness, passion, confidence, and humility. As I begin this exciting part of my life I will be working hard on furthering my academic growth and overall development as a man on and off the field.
To me football is a family and a brotherhood. Knowing that my success lies on the man standing next to me, knowing that if I don’t come prepared for battle I am going to let my teammates down, knowing all these things pushes and proves to me that family is everything both on the field and off… and without it I am nothing.
A difference between a man and a boy is how one reacts to adversity. Discipline, confidence, and loyalty are all words that show true grit on the field and off, and I strongly believe that I am all those things and more. Being part of a football team is so much more than just putting on a jersey and running around under the light. It’s one big family whose collective job is to better each other and help one another reach their fullest potential. I can promise any coach, recruiter, or whomever is reading this that I will leave everything I have for those I love. Something that separates me from others is my unwillingness to quit. I made a promise at a very young age to push myself to be great, and I am a man of my word.
In reference to my collegiate goals, I pride myself on being very knowledgeable and interested in history and storytelling. I feel compelled to serve and protect people’s stories and legacies because of how much I genuinely care for my community and the world. When choosing my college one of the main things I will look for is a strong history department and overall tradition at the school. I want to major in Political Science and then go on to law school.
